Installation | General | Implementation Request | Very Low | Low | To make installation instructions and get use of live I... | Unconfirmed
Task Description
I have installed multiple times Hyperbola, 4 times on 4 different notebooks.
What I have noticed is that the live ISO is quite huge in relation to the task that should be done. Namely. the live ISO shall at least contain some first packages, so that they do not need to be downloaded online.
Best would be if the live ISO can be copied straight and that system can run from ISO/DVD without having Internet. At least one simple graphical environment shall be included.
Further, I have noticed that there is only network instructions as HTML file.
I would rather call it installation-instructions.html to make it clear for people what it is. Or simply: INSTALL.html so that people understand what it is.
It says just network.html if I remember well.
Then there is absolutely no point or link or reference to the installation instructions.
Each time I got a network I had to go to either duckduckgo search engine or to hyperbola.info website and then I tried with lynx to find installation instructions.
It is not straight, not quite clearly in open, it is in Wiki, but that is quite hard to find.
We have to put ourselves in the shoes of those in need of free software. Millions of people need free software.
Many of us live in a developed western countries.
Yet millions of people in need of this software live in South America, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe.
There are millions of students that could advance their study, and that could progress faster with free software.
In those countries Internet is often non-existent, universities may be located in poor network areas, Internet is being fetched by using mobile phones.
So if there is a live distribution, such shall at least contain basic software, which really can fit onto any DVD, and that as such can be copied on the computer without using Internet. Upgrades could be fetched by using Internet.
And there shall be clear reference, link or file about installation. There shall be no need to go to Internet to install the software.

Packages | Testing | Replace Request | Very Low | Medium | replace request: NetworkManager with wpa_cute | Unconfirmed
Task Description
https://github.com/loh-tar/wpa-cute/releases
I know there are plans to remove NetworkManager. I wondered if we could replace it in 0.4 with Wpa_Cute. seen in the above link.
I haven’t been able to compile it, but it has been updated as recent as 2018 december (stable)
or 2019 january. :)
WPA_GUI doesn’t seem to work well for me, it runs into weird errors when I start it. Long story short, I run into this issue with wpa_supplicant when i do it manually:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wpa_supplicant:
Password-related problems
wpa_supplicant may not work properly if directly passed via stdin particularly long or complex passphrases which include special characters. This may lead to errors such as failed 4-way WPA handshake, PSK may be wrong when launching wpa_supplicant.
In order to solve this try using here strings wpa_passphrase <MYSSID> «< “<passphrase>” or passing a file to the -c flag instead:
# wpa_supplicant -i <interface> -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/example.conf
In some instances it was found that storing the passphrase cleartext in the psk key of the wpa_supplicant.conf network block gave positive results (see [2]). However, this approach is rather insecure. Using wpa_cli to create this file instead of manually writing it gives the best results most of the time and therefore is the recommended way to proceed. Problems with eduroam and other MSCHAPv2 connections
This is my issue with wpa_supplicant sadly... and I do not know how to workaround that without a GUI.
but Wpa_Supplicant_gui does not fix it either, it doesn’t even load properly on my other laptop.
It says it cannot get the status of wpa_supplicant when I load it.
This could be an issue if you get rid of NetworkManager for some users.
So yeah, please take a look at my request okay? Wait for 0.3 to be released to add this if possible. I know you guys are overworked, etc... and it doesn’t need to be done now anyhow. ;)

I would like this, because, it looks even better than xfce4. It does use an older qt3 though, BUT, they are maintaining QT3 and improving it themselves.
Plus, its more lightweight than xfce4 and maybe even lxqt too without looking like crap like lxqt and yet still is better than a WM.
I know you don’t like stuff that is abandonware in any sense, but given its being maintained, I hope you will add it.
But let me know.

Hello Hyperbola!
GPA gives out the following errors upon opening the app.
First:
``` The GPGME library returned an unexpected error at confdialog.c:1459. The error was:
This is either an installation problem or a bug in GPA. GPA will now try to recover from this error. ```
Second:
``` Fatal Error in GPGME library (invoked from file options.c, line 302):
Unsupported protocol
The application will be terminated
What can I do to overcome these errors? ``` As this issue makes gpa app completely unusable, I have set this bug report’s severity as high.
I also request the admin to set priority to high due to it’s severity.
Thank you!

Description:
Gajim XMPP Client wont start after installing python2-gnupg.
Additional info: * package version(s)

extra/gajim 0.16.8-1.hyperbola2
* config and/or log files etc.
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gajim/common/gajim.py
Steps to reproduce:
With Gajim working is not possible to assign an OpenPGP key because it needs a wrapper. Therefore python2-gnupgp package is needed. But after installing python2-gnupgp, Gajim doesn’t start. The following output is displayed from the console:
07/21/2018 18:00:41 (E) gajim.c.gnupg Unable to run gpg - it may not be available. Traceback (most recent call last):

File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gnupg.py", line 761, in __init__
raise OSError(msg)
OSError: Unable to run gpg - it may not be available.
After doing some search, the issue is that gajim.py is trying to call ‘gpg’ as ‘gpg1’.
# grep -n GPG_BINARY /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gajim/common/gajim.py 162:GPG_BINARY = ‘gpg1’
By replacing ‘gpg’ instead of ‘gpg1’, Gajim will start normally with OpenPGP feature available.
Maybe a newer revision of python2-gnupg is required or maybe a small patch in the current package.

Packages | Stable | Bug Report | Low | Medium | Garbled display with xfce4-terminal (terminfo) | Unconfirmed
Task Description
A very nasty bug I wasn’t able to find an answer to. I compiled stuff (buildroot) using menuconfig, the menu display was fine in xfce4-terminal (See screenshot #1) I restarted the config a few days later with the same command :
$ make menuconfig
and this time the display was messed up (See screenshot #2)
After investigation, I noticed a directory (filled with stuff) have been created in my home folder :
.terminfo
I don’t know why. But anyway, if I delete it, then the display is ok again. I noticed that if I use good old xterm terminal, then the display is fine even if the .terminfo directory is present. (it uses “xterm” instead of xterm-256color)
But, with xfce4-terminal (and others, I tried with gnome-terminal, sakura..), the display is messed up if the .terminfo directory is present in my home folder.
I also noticed that if I run the command in a screen session, the issue is not present.
(I open xfce4-terminal)
$ screen
$ printenv TERM
screen.xterm-256color
$ make menuconfig (or htop, or other program using ncurses)
= display ok
but with default :
(I open xfce4-terminal)
$ printenv TERM
xterm-256color
make menuconfig (or htop, or other program using ncurses)
= display messed up if .terminfo directory is present
So I have no idea why this .terminfo directory is generated. What could trigger its generation ? Is that an issue with ncurses or something else ?
Thanks for your help

Task Description
The Knock patches for linux-libre maintained by you at https://git.hyperbola.info:50100/kernels/knock.git/ have support up to linux-libre 4.13 only (and I think it didn’t work for it when I tried it, compilation failed) but from all of those supported versions, the newest maintained generation by the upstream is 4.9.x
However, since newer kernel generations might require reprogramming the patch, I want to request it only for the latest LTS generation which is 4.14. As you know, LTS software are supported for a long time, so it’s worth to make it for linux-libre 4.14.x
This might not be really important for Hyperbola in the short term, but you are the maintainers of the TCP Stealth implementation for Linux-libre and I and maybe other people would like to use it in their projects for newer versions.
Plus, it would be great since while 4.9 kernels can use the GRSec+Knock combination like linux-libre-lts-unofficial-grsec-knock, with support for 4.14 anyone would be able to use a combination of newer patches such as Linux-hardened+Knock (Linux-hardened supports 4.14 and 4.15 as of now) which is what I’d like to do. https://github.com/copperhead/linux-hardened/releases

Task Description
Hi guys, I have ever run into a Brother brand printer model DCPT500W[0], and I have seen that the source code for the drivers under GPLv3 license is available.
I also see that there is a file brother_dcpt500w_printer_en.ppd, which is important for cups, which is why it may be necessary to integrate it into the cups, as long as the drivers are Libre.

Packages | Any | Implementation Request | Very Low | Medium | [SPF][postfix] implement pypolicyd-spf and postfix-poli... | Unconfirmed
Task Description
Description: Hyperbola has the following SPF implementations: * libspf2 * perl-mail-spf * perl-mail-spf-query
However, none of them work out of the box with postfix. There’s postfix-policyd-spf-perl, which uses one the current perl implementations (perl-mail-spf), takes no time to build and all the dependencies are already satisfied with Hyperbola’s packages
Here I made a PKGBUILD that’s compliant with the packaging standards:
pkgname=postfix-policyd-spf-perl
pkgver=2.011
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc='Postfix SPF policy engine, written in Perl'
arch=(i686 x86_64)
url='https://launchpad.net/postfix-policyd-spf-perl/'
license=(GPL)
depends=(perl-mail-spf perl-netaddr-ip perl-sys-hostname-long)
source=("https://launchpad.net/postfix-policyd-spf-perl/trunk/${pkgver}/+download/${pkgname}-${pkgver}.tar.gz"{,.asc})
sha512sums=('22fc00bf74912056a67e937a460ac1fd878f1cb1a3bfa7b19bc5f1e6bc1c36d815dcf8c945e818d242ed5e72a6295bb0e1569446e06b09aefb2842993b8016ba'
'SKIP')
validpgpkeys=(E7729BFFBE85400FEEEE23B178D7DEFB9AD59AF1) # Scott Kitterman
package() {
cd "${pkgname}-${pkgver}"
install -Dm755 "${pkgname}" "${pkgdir}/usr/libexec/postfix/${pkgname}"
install -Dm644 CHANGES INSTALL README -t "${pkgdir}/usr/share/doc/${pkgname}"
install -Dm644 LICENSE "${pkgdir}/usr/share/licenses/${pkgname}/LICENSE"
}
in the other hand, to give users the possibility of having more options, we could add pypolicyd-spf (AUR), which depends in pyspf (AUR) and other packages that Hyperbola has. In fact, ArchWiki talks about this implementation, but this might not be relevant.

Task Description
This package contains vague terminology “Open Source”:
extra/aiksaurus 1.2.1-5
A cross-platform, open-source thesaurus
According to: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html
We shall avoid vague terminology such as “Open Source”, please see here: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#Open
It would be good example to set to have proper description of packages without using “Open Source”.
eg.
A cross-platform, free-software thesaurus
