Add Hyperbola branding to HyperTask such as HyperWiki and HyperForum for prolixity reasons.

When I was adding this task, I put some long tags on it (html form allowed that) and got an error concerning too long tags field to fit in an sql datatype (max is 40 chars). Task got added anyway (just without tags). I didn’t know that and created it again.

So avatar uploading is not working well, and picture is getting minimized to nothing.

After confirming the newly created account (typing the confirmation code, the passwoard and its confirmation, and clicking the button to continue), the following error appears:

The account login seems to work normaly.

The unfortunate reality is that x86 computers come encumbered with built-in low-level backdoors like the Intel Management Engine , as well as nonfree boot firmware. This means that users can’t gain full control over their computers, even if they install a free operating system such as Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre .

Hyperbola is working hard to fix these issues and getting closer every day, but for the time being, this is why many current Respects Your Freedom (RYF) offerings are refurbished older devices.

For the future of free computing, we need support architectures that do not come with such malware pre-installed, and the Power9-based Talos II promises to be a great architecture example for workstations and servers environments where Hyperbola is focused since is a fully free long-term support distribution.

Devices like this are the future of computing that Respects Your Freedom and for that reason it’s a high priority for Hyperbola port all packages for the POWER architecture (power64le).

NOTE: POWER porting is focused only for Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre .

I have installed multiple times Hyperbola, 4 times on 4 different notebooks.

What I have noticed is that the live ISO is quite huge in relation to the task that should be done. Namely. the live ISO shall at least contain some first packages, so that they do not need to be downloaded online.

Best would be if the live ISO can be copied straight and that system can run from ISO/DVD without having Internet. At least one simple graphical environment shall be included.

Further, I have noticed that there is only network instructions as HTML file.

I would rather call it installation-instructions.html to make it clear for people what it is. Or simply: INSTALL.html so that people understand what it is.

It says just network.html if I remember well.

Then there is absolutely no point or link or reference to the installation instructions.

Each time I got a network I had to go to either duckduckgo search engine or to hyperbola.info website and then I tried with lynx to find installation instructions.

It is not straight, not quite clearly in open, it is in Wiki, but that is quite hard to find.

We have to put ourselves in the shoes of those in need of free software. Millions of people need free software.

Many of us live in a developed western countries.

Yet millions of people in need of this software live in South America, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe.

There are millions of students that could advance their study, and that could progress faster with free software.

In those countries Internet is often non-existent, universities may be located in poor network areas, Internet is being fetched by using mobile phones.

So if there is a live distribution, such shall at least contain basic software, which really can fit onto any DVD, and that as such can be copied on the computer without using Internet. Upgrades could be fetched by using Internet.

And there shall be clear reference, link or file about installation. There shall be no need to go to Internet to install the software.

I tried to extract a RAR v5 archive using unar that works fine when using the non-free unrar.

Here is the log (with the file name altered)

Please add in the FAQ that newer RAR archives (version 5) may not work when using unar.

I could not find any regarding using arch or other branded themes. Parabola apparently rebrands some stuff in their libre repository, eg. they have their own parabola-themes-slim package for slim based themes.

Develop HyperBK (Hyper Berkeley Kernel), a BSD descendant kernel with GPL-compatible licenses preserved, non-compatible ones removed, and new code written under GPL-3 for HyperbolaBSD.

Seems deleted items reappearing in the Hyperbola feeds since it gives its feed items empty ID string.

The requirement for TLS 1.2 in email effectively isolated us from internet, and yelling for change isn’t working even in communications with other free/libre system distributions and mailing lists related to free/libre software (both for software and for discussions related to the movement itself). :)

Many mailing lists at gnu.org, fsf.org, fsfla.org, libreplanet.org, and also in other free/libre system distributions aren’t accessible (e.g.: Trisquel).

This problem did not occur last time I sent emails to a hyperbola.info account (December 2019).
It does not happen with any other destination email server. My guess is that something isn’t properly configured in your server.
If you conclude that this is a riseup.net problem, let me know and I’ll open a bug report with them.

The RFC 3461 would allow Hyperbola email accounts to request the destination email providers to point out if an email was successfully delivered.

It might not cover all transport failures, but at least has a chance to know in advance whether the message was delivered, discarding the events that happen afterwards (be it to the main inbox or subject to filtering rules such as moving to other folder, marking as spam or deleted after receipt).

I’m writing here about the package Conky. It is the useful widget of system monitor into your desktop, but there are some serious issues:

Config variables

• distribution outputs the string “Arch Linux” instead of “Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre”.
• eve requires users to use API for non-libre/free video game EVE Online, and should be removed.
• All Beep Media Player (BMPx) related variables (including bmpx_album, bmpx_artist, bmpx_bitrate, bmpx_title, bmpx_track and bmpx_uri) are obselete and useless, and should be removed because the package BMPx isn’t present on Arch and Hyperbola official repositories but Arch User Repository (AUR).
• [For Milky Way version 0.4.x only] All PulseAudio related variables (including if_pa_sink_muted, pa_sink_volume, pa_sink_volumebar, pa_sink_description, pa_card_name and pa_card_active_profile) are no longer used, and should be removed due replaced the default audio server with sndio.

Manual

• Contains non-FDSG compliant distros.
• Contains vague terminology.
• Requires users to use API for non-libre/free weather network service(s) (including The Weather Channel).

osdbattery is (probably) useless and broken so Conky did compete because It is still unmaintained and unsupported over 14 years ago (last released version 1.4 on August 23, 2005), and should be removed per anti-abandonware rule at the packaging guidelines.

Also, the default config file contains non-libre/free Microsoft font Verdana as X11 font format property in font variable.

Description: Since the migration to xenocara there seems to be a bug with applications using GTK-2. From time to time there are crashes with assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost’.

Looking into this a little bit more deep there are also other distributions affected and this is an upstream-bug. Affected are for example LXDE in general, icedove, iceweasel and many more!

GPA gives out the following errors upon opening the app.

As this issue makes gpa app completely unusable, I have set this bug report’s severity as high.

I also request the admin to set priority to high due to it’s severity.

Current VLC version (3.0.4-3.hyperbola1.backports1) fails to play DVB stream using a RTL2832 usb dongle.

I start the playlist like this :

vlc channels.conf

but it returns the following error :

cache_block stream error: cannot pre fill buffer

Also, it asks the user to be in “video” group to access DVB device, this was not needed before with Hyperbola 0.2.9. User being in “wheel” was enough.
Anyway, even after adding my user to video group, it still fails with “cache_block stream error: cannot pre fill buffer”

This is not an issue with my DVB adapter or driver. rtl2832 is correctly loaded. And I can play the channels.conf playlist just fine with “mpv” or “mplayer”.
Also, the channels.conf used works just fine with a more recent version of VLC on an other system (Manjaro) so something is broken with the current VLC used.

Maybe a package bump would fix the issue.

It is a known bug on 0.7 and solved on 0.9

cowsay (cowsay-3.03-9.hyperbola1) is missing perl-text-charwidth dependency

Error message :

After installing perl-text-charwidth, it works fine.
