Description:

Tuxcards is seemingly published under some GPL license, on the splash screen I did not see which one.

The splash screen claims it is Donationware, which is bringing confusion.

Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donationware

So either the splash screen shall be removed, as it is donationware, or author contacted, or package removed as it is unclear if it is free software or donationware. Free software can be sold, and if it is sold, then such software shall not ask for donations again in my opinion.

PackagesAnyFeature RequestVery LowLow[vobsub2srt] please add packageUnconfirmed
0%
Task Description

here is the description from the website

https://github.com/ruediger/VobSub2SRT

VobSub2SRT is a simple command line program to convert .idx / .sub subtitles into .srt text subtitles by using OCR. It is based on code from the MPlayer project - a really really great movie player. Some minor parts are copied from ffmpeg/avutil headers. Tesseract is used as OCR software.

vobsub2srt is released under the GPL3+ license. The MPlayer code included is GPL2+ licensed.

The quality of the OCR depends on the text in the subtitles. Currently the code does not use any preprocessing. But I’m currently looking into adding filters and scaling options to improve the OCR. You can correct mistakes in the .srt files with a text editor or a special subtitle editor.

Attached is a working PKGBUILD for the latest stable version.

Task Description

Hello,

I stumbled upon this music player recently, it is very promising and fully free (GPL3)

“Sayonara is a small, clear and fast audio player for Linux written in C++, supported by the Qt framework. It uses GStreamer as audio backend. Sayonara is open source and uses the GPLv3 license. One of Sayonara’s goals is intuitive and easy usablility. Currently, it is only available for Linux and BSD.

Although Sayonara can be considered as a lightweight player, it holds a lot of features in order to organize even big music collections.”

Latest version is 1.1.1 and it is very stable on my hyperbola system. I think it would be a great addition to Hyperbola repo.

A PKGBUILD is available here :

GNU Guix is a purely functional package manager that can coexist peacefully with GNU/Linux distribution’s native package manaer and allows unprivileged per-user software installation.

I have already prepared the necessary PKGBUILDs (attached to this task)

and I’m only asking for checking if they’re ok (since it’s my first attempt at packaging) and adding them to Hyperbola.

I did have some doubts as to which versions of packages were I supposed choose (newest ones or ones that were available as of May 8th 2017). I am also not sure if guile’s .go files are architecture dependent (some existsing PKGBUILDs I used declare arches separately but one declares ‘any’). I might have also made some mistakes along the way, hence I hope someone experienced will take a look at it.

I really hope someone will make use of guix once it’s added :)

A Desktop Enivronment mostly focused on BSD, but also one that is very lightweight and easily customized. Would love to see this desktop on Hyperbola and later whenever Emulatorman makes it, Hyperbola/GNU/HyperBK

Version is the latest one in above link of stable.

When you add Lumina desktop, add this package for sure. Although it is compatible with other desktops too. So it would be good to add it regardless.

This was the guide I followed, but there was one small issue:

The issue is attached within a picture. You will notice that a bunch of unneeded shortcuts are on my desktop right? well... I wondered how I can remove them. multiple filesystem root(s) and home(s) and boot(s)

but yeah, its extremely weird and messed up. a bit funny but troublesome and annoying.

Should I email the user who made that guide or leave it here? That's what I am wondering.

PackagesAnyImplementation RequestVery LowLowadd yacy support for iceweasel-XPUnconfirmed

Task Description

Description:

Searx is better in the short term than search engines like Google and DuckDuckGo in that the client-side JavaScript is free and the server-side code is free and public. However, in the long term it can never be a real replacement for non-free search engines while it relies on non-free search engines for data. At this time, the major general purpose search engines who use their own data are all controlled by corporations like Google and Microsoft. The YaCy search engine addresses this by relying on decentralized data based on p2p.

For this reason, I believe that YaCy is socially a better choice than Searx as the default search engine for Iceweasel-UXP. However, it is not at this time a practically better choice. Since YaCy relies on its users to index the web, and does not currently have many users, the search results are not very good. This creates a chicken-and-egg problem, since it will be difficult for YaCy to gain users while its search results are poor.

However, Searx supports YaCy as a source of search engine results. I don’t know of any Searx instances which have YaCy support enabled, presumably since YaCy support would only be useful to users who have YaCy installed locally and running on http://localhost:8090, but Hyperbola could run its own Searx instance, enable YaCy support plus DuckDuckGo, and make this the default search engine for Iceweasel-UXP. This way, Iceweasel-UXP users can use and contribute to YaCy, but supplement YaCy’s search results with results from DuckDuckGo until YaCy becomes strong enough to stand on its own.

Additional info:

* AUR package for YaCy: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/yacy

* Searx support for YaCy: https://github.com/asciimoo/searx/blob/master/searx/engines/yacy.py

Description:
Historically, Swiftweasel was a Firefox-based application built on XUL platform around 2007 and abandoned in 2010. It was optimized for several architectures using the following methods such as the Profile-Guided Optimization (PGO) and binary code optimization for computers with limited resources.

Since there are users encouraging us develop a Palemoon-based application , and Swiftweasel contains non-trademarked graphics and logos, we could port Swiftweasel to UXP platform as theme for Iceweasel-UXP.
